Life Insurance with Living Benefits

Critical illness insurance can make all the difference.

Six in 10 adults in the U.S. have a chronic disease, meaning they have a condition that lasts at least one year, requires ongoing treatment, and/or significantly affects their daily life. That is a staggering and sobering statistic. While the likelihood of suffering from a critical or chronic illness during your lifetime can be affected by a host of health and genetic factors – many of which are outside of your control – sometimes we just get sick for no discernable reason. And getting sick can be really expensive. That’s why adding a critical illness rider to your life insurance policy could be, well, critical to your family’s financial health.

Reasons to add a critical illness rider to your life insurance policy:

  • You do not have health insurance or are underinsured
  • Chronic or critical illnesses run in your family
  • You can use the benefit for whatever you need after diagnosis

What is critical illness insurance?

Though it can be its own standalone policy, critical illness insurance is usually added to an existing life insurance policy as a rider. This insurance rider provides you with protection if you’re diagnosed with a critical or chronic illness covered under the policy. Unlike other life insurance policies, a critical illness rider pays out a one-time lump sum benefit to the policyholder while they’re still alive – not to their beneficiaries once they’re gone. The money can then be used for critical medical services and treatments, daily living expenses, transportation, and lost wages.

Benefits of Critical Illness Coverage

No Medical Exams

You do not need to see a doctor or undergo any medical tests to add a critical illness rider to your life insurance policy.

Affordable Plans

Because critical illness riders are already underwritten, they are not expensive to add to an existing life insurance policy.

Living Benefit

Get your benefit when you need it to pay for medical bills, living expenses, and the associated costs of critical illness.

You’ve made it this far… Let’s get this done.

Can I get critical illness insurance after I’ve been diagnosed? Expand

Unfortunately, you cannot add a critical illness rider to your life insurance policy if you’ve already been diagnosed with a critical or chronic illness covered under the policy.

Is critical illness insurance the same as an accelerated death benefit? Expand

They work similarly, but no, they are not the same. A critical illness rider is for someone with a critical or chronic illness who is not terminal. An accelerated death benefit rider can only be used by someone who is terminally ill.
